Ear(th)scapes is a lovingly handcrafted sensory installation, shaped like a human ear — a form chosen with real intention. Families navigating autism often feel unheard; this installation is our answer to that silence.
This is a place to come and play — to interact with other children and with each other, and to connect with nature and its soothing sounds.
Designed specifically with neurodivergent children and their families in mind, yet open and nurturing for all, Ear(th)scapes responds to growing evidence that nature-based sensory environments support emotional regulation and wellbeing in children with SEND. It breaks down barriers to services and social stigma, enabling connection with one another and with nature in an artistic, innovative form.
Step inside and it feels like a small forest — enchanted flowers, ferns, ancient oaks and soft mosses, with birdsong and the soft swoosh of leaves playing through safely embedded audio. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered — the soundscape, the textures, the colours, the activities — all rooted in environmental psychology and shaped by lived experience. It's a space designed to quietly reset the nervous system rather than overwhelm — to arrive, to soften, and to simply be.
Founder's Story
Ear(th)scapes was born from personal experience. As a parent navigating my own son's autism and his inability to access school, I have experienced first-hand how little meaningful support exists for children like him. Out of this, Ear(th)scapes was created as a solution: a space where children with similar needs can socialise, where parents can support one another, and where young people can be part of the project as it continues to grow.
